Gold Coast developer Azzura Corporation has revealed plans for a massive supertall tower in Southport, which would contain more floors than the Empire State Building and reportedly take the title as Australia’s and the Southern Hemisphere’s tallest building.
When completed, the 108-story Imperial Square Stage 3 Tower will be the centerpiece of the Imperial Square development, which will house its own university, 2,200 residential units, a 200-room hotel, and 200 student accommodation units.
The site is strategically located on the corner of Ferry Road and Meron Street in the Southport CBD. The overall project consists of a four-staged, vertically integrated education and accommodation complex. The towers will include an extension of the podium education facility by way of a vertically integrated campus complimented by a medical center, apartment accommodation, additional student accommodation, gyms, theaters, activity centers, and a five-star hotel.
Stage one features a 210-room hotel and 420-room student accommodation tower, which was approved in December 2016. The developer shared that it has made great progress thus far with moving towards a commencement of the project in late 2017.
Stages two to four consist of a six-level podium structure including 50,000 square meters of gross floor area currently planned and designed for the university campus. Extending above the podium will be three separate towers consisting of 48, 68, and 108 levels.
