"Tallest 20 in 2020" Poster Available
Based on the recent study published by the CTBUH, this poster displays the 20 projects set to become the world’s tallest buildings in the year 2020. Eight of these buildings will be considered "megatall" over 600 meters in height.

With a grant from The Prince Charitable Trusts, the CTBUH will develop an on-line database that will centralize information relevant to researchers, such as funding sources and current global research efforts in the field of high density urban developments.

Design Research Workshop: Venice
A design research workshop titled “The Tall Stones of Venice” was held at the IUAV, University of Venice from the 11th - 29th of July, 2011. Over 41 students from all over the world produced 12 innovative projects as a result.

CTBUH Chairman Professor Sang Dae Kim has recently held tall building lectures in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Russia. The lectures provided great opportunities for networking with tall building professionals and the dissemination of tall building information.

Fire Safety of Tall Buildings Research Project

The Council is pleased to announce that a CTBUH-affiliated research program aiming to address the threat of fires to tall buildings has recently received funding from the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The project will be steered by the BRE Centre for Fire Safety Engineering.

Next CTBUH Chair Announced
The Board of Trustees has elected Timothy Johnson to be the next Chairman of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. He will succeed current Chairman Sang Dae Kim to lead the council and further its mission from October 2011 - October 2013.

Taipei 101 installs CTBUH Signboard at LEED Ceremony
Taipei 101, the world’s second tallest building, has inaugurated a CTBUH Signboard recognizing the significant height achievements of the building, at its recent ceremony to celebrate its environmental upgrade works which has gained LEED-Existing Building Operation and Maintenance Platinum status.

AS + GG Designs Kingdom Tower, to be the World's Tallest Building
At over 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) and a total construction area of 530,000 square meters (5.7 million square feet), Kingdom Tower will be the centerpiece and first construction phase of the Kingdom City development on a 5.3 million-square-meter site in north Jeddah.

University of Calgary Tall Building Designs Online
Student designs from Professor Brian Sinclair’s tall building studio, based at the University of Calgary, have now been added to the CTBUH’s student work collection. Located in the Canadian city of Calgary, these projects explore design inspired by local qualities including biology, ecology, geography and geology.

CTBUH Announces its Research Development Initiative
This initiative directed at colleagues involved in (or aspiring to be involved in) tall building-related research and development. The central goal of this initiative is to promote grant proposal submissions and to reduce barriers to tall building research.

Tornado Tower CTBUH Signboard Completion
Doha’s Tornado Tower, winner of the 2009 Best Tall Building for Middle East and Africa, has now completed a signboard which commemorates this accomplishment and provides basic project information. Tornado Tower is the most recent of a growing number of buildings which have installed signboards.

The Norman Ramsey Collection

A fantastic collection of thousands of books, articles and postcards documenting decades of tall building history has been donated to the Council. Mr. Norman Ramsey started the collection when he was 18 years old.

Professor Sang Dae Kim’s tenure as CTBUH Chairman (2009-2011) will be coming to an end this October, with the formal “passing of the gavel” expected during the CTBUH 2011 World Conference Seoul. The next Chair of the Council is thus now sought, to continue the great work of Professor Kim.

Skyscrapers Climb Ever Higher
CTBUH has input to an Arch Record tall building article. Despite the economic downturn, supertall towers continue to rise. Of the top 10 now in progress, six were designed by U.S. firms. Only one, however, is on American soil.

Tallest 20 in 2010 Poster
The Council has now released a poster featuring the world’s 20 tallest buildings completed during the year 2010. This poster presents each building with specific information including: building location, height, structural material, architect, etc.

2010 Tall Building Review
2010 was the most successful year of skyscraper completion in history with China in the ascendancy. In a year dominated by news coverage of the new “World’s Tallest Building” one may be surprised to learn that 2010 has seen the completion of more skyscrapers than any previous year in history.

Jewelers Building Tour
In December 2010, the CTBUH participated in an exciting tour of Chicago's historic Jewelers Building. The building was enthusiastically presented on Friday, December 17, by the current user of the dome, the world renowned architectural firm of Murphy/Jahn, and building manager DUS Management, Inc.
