One reason why reading about residential tall building development in Asia is so fascinating is that the context in which tall buildings are developed is so fundamentally different compared to how these buildings are shaped in Western cities. As in the latter the contemporary residential tall building is often considered to be a statement of individual urban lifestyle, Asian cities consider the tall building type to be a solution for their housing needs in a context that is characterized by fast economic growth, a dense urban populations and a much more communal culture. The book discusses the topic by presenting academic essays on a wide variety of related topics, such as the design, economics, estate management, legal and property rights, physical environment, planning, community development, and social dimensions of high-rise living.  As such, it shows what issues matter in this context and how it is done.
