Thomas Hietto graduated from the department of Industrial Management at Helsinki University of Technology in 1993. He joined KONE, one of the global leaders in the elevator and escalator industry in that same year. Thereafter, he has worked for the company in several positions and locations in Europe and Asia. During 1996-1997 he participated in the Executive Training Programme (ETP16) in Japan, organized by the European Commission. After the ETP program, Thomas worked for KONE in Japan until 2004 mainly focusing in the Strategic Alliance between Toshiba Corporation and KONE. During this period, he was involved in several high rise projects, such as Taipei 101. After Japan, he worked for two years in South-East Asia being in charge of KONE operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. These markets offered new opportunities and experiences in the construction, maintenance and modernization of elevators and escalators in tall buildings. Since 2007, Thomas has been responsible for KONE operations in Finland and the Baltic States, where a number of tall buildings are being planned.
