The first Makarov Quarter apartment tower in Yekaterinburg, Russia, was inaugurated in December 2018. When completed by 2022, the massive residential development will create a virtually self-contained district on the shores of the Iset River, and Penetron crystalline technology will play a role in creating durable – and dry – concrete basement structures for the whole development.

In less than four years, the Makarov Quarter project will be a wholly new residential development on the Olympic Embankment, an upscale district close to the center of Yekaterinburg, Russia. The first of four apartment tower complexes features 50 spacious 4-5-bedroom apartments with amenities, including underground parking for all residents, a fitness gym (complete with a 25-meter pool), a hospital, a dental clinic, and supermarket. The second tower complex is scheduled to open by the end of 2019. Finally, two historic buildings at the site – the Simanovskaya Mill and a laboratory building – are being renovated and will also be integrated into the Makarov Quarter development.

The project contractor, Ural Mining Metallurgical Company (UMMC), is a Russian producer of commodities (copper, zinc, coal, gold, and silver, etc.) and also operates a large construction division. Located on the shores of the Iset River, the Makarov Quarter project offers scenic views of the city center, the Iset River, and Yekaterinburg’s new business district, home to many global corporate offices.

Constructed on the former site of an old mill, the Makarov Quarter’s proximity to the Iset River stipulated a durable concrete waterproofing solution. UMMC contacted Penetron-Ural, the local Penetron representative, about an optimal waterproofing solution for the project.

“The construction site has a high water table, which demanded a reliable solution that could be applied to all the extensive concrete basement structures included in the project’s plans,” explained Igor Chernogolov, President of Penetron Russia.

The Penetron Ural team will submit updates on the Makarov Quarter project as construction progresses.
