SHENZHEN – A gathering of officials and invited guests commemorated the opening of Sky, the concert hall atop One Shenzhen Bay Tower 7, which was confirmed as the “World’s Highest Concert Hall” following a CTBUH Research Project commissioned by the project’s owner, Parkland Group.

Located at 319.55 meters above the ground-level pedestrian entrance, Sky is the uppermost public space in the 341.4-meter mixed-use tower, part of the One Shenzhen Bay development. The performance space is surrounded by windows on three sides, offering commanding views of Shenzhen Bay and providing a dramatic backdrop for performances. The ceremony conducted on January 21 included the unveiling of a CTBUH signboard confirming the record.

The event, hosted by Shuwen Gu, Design Manager, Parkland Group, began with an introduction by CTBUH China Director Peng Du, who summarized the findings of the CTBUH Research Project leading up to the confirmation of the record. Dongfeng Guo, Vice Chairman, Parkland Group, gave a welcoming address to the attendees, followed by Marianne Kwok, Principal, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), who briefed the audience on the architectural design behind the supertall tower. Attendees were then led to appreciate the space they occupied with presentations from Su Doggett, Executive Director, G.A Group, which performed the interior design; and from Zhanchun Huang, Design Director at Huang Zhanchun Theatre Architectural Design Consultancy Co., Ltd., which designed the acoustics of the space. The ceremony concluded with a brief address from CTBUH China Board members Eric Lee, Asia Director, JLL; and Kui Zhuang, Co-President, CCDI Group, the building’s local architect of record, on behalf of CTBUH China.

The research on Highest Special-Purpose Spaces will be published as a Tall Buildings in Numbers (TBIN) data report in CTBUH Journal 2019, Issue III.
